Rangiroa local fishing boats
In the foreground a Poti Marara which a wooden boat designed and built locally. There is a man hole at the front of the boat with a kind of joy stick which is part of a very reactive steering gear system. It is used for catching flying fishes with a landing net or harpoon Dorado or Mahi-Mahi. It also put the pilot in good condition to steer clear of corals when in shallow waters. At background a wooden local Bonitier boat used by canners to catch Bonitos and Tunas.
